This campaign is about restoring trust, integrity, and a fresh perspective to public service—backed by a long-standing commitment to the people of Prince George’s County.
I’ve been a fierce community activist and advocate for decades, standing shoulder to shoulder with Prince Georgians in District 9 on the issues that matter most.
🟢 My platform focuses on seven key areas:
I. Consumer and Retirement Protection for Seniors
II. State Highway and Roadway Safety, Improvements, and Beautification
III. Small Business and Local Procurement Advocacy
IV. Full State Funding for Public Schools and Educators
V. State Funding for Public Safety Initiatives
VI. Improved Healthcare Services
VI. Environment
🟢 My Experience in Action
Consumer Protection:
As a former member of the Maryland Consumer Council, I’ve worked closely with the Attorney General's office to protect seniors and all Marylanders from fraud. I will continue that fight, and work to reduce the high taxes on retirement income that burden many in our community.
I also successfully championed for legislation to give homeowners the right to Mandatory Mediation in home foreclosure cases during the height of the 2008 housing crisis.
Traffic Safety:
As a member of the MD 210 Traffic Safety Steering Committee, I’ve advocated for real change: safer roads, improved pedestrian and cyclists' crossings, and clean, well-maintained highways. I’ll continue that work throughout District 9.
Support for Small Businesses:
As a local small business owner, I know the struggle of accessing capital and County contracts. I have successfully worked to ensure that local and minority-owned businesses get their fair share of opportunities in County contracts and access to capital. My efforts have led to having a local and minority-owned contractor that will help build the new K-8 school in Brandywine at the site of Gwynn Park Middle School.
Education Advocacy:
As a mother, and a proud parent of two children who graduated from Prince George’s public schools, I’ve been actively involved, from PTSA leadership to community organizing. I helped block a proposed Walmart near school grounds and supported alternatives like Top Golf. I’ll bring that same energy to fight for our students and educators.
Along side fellow PTSA parents, I have successfully advocated for an authentic Montessori curriculum at John Hanson Montessori School in Oxon Hill instead "teaching to the test" in the elementary and middle school curriculum. Our PTSA ensured that teachers and administrators were Montessori-certified. I have advocated for more teacher autonomy in curriculum development to meet the students' educational needs where they are academically (not some generic metric that most likely will not apply to individual learners).
I helped to block a proposed, but unwanted Walmart near school grounds and supported family-friendly alternatives like Top Golf.
I was the telecommunications attorney that worked with the Accokeek Academy PTSA to prevent a cellular tower from being built on school property next to the tot lot playground area.
Although my husband and I no longer have children matriculating in PGCPS, I maintain active role with the PTSAs of Surrattsville High School, Friendly High School, Accokeek Academy, Stephen Decatur Middle School, Gwynn Park Middle School and Gwynn Park High School.
I will bring that same energy to fight for all of our District 9 schools, students and educators.
Public Safety Leadership:
As a former member of the Division IV, V and VII Police Citizens Advisory Councils, I played an active road in first getting the southern tier patrolling in District IV, and lobbied with neighbors for the opening of the Division VII police precinct in Ft. Washington as well as the new Brandywine fire station. I will continue to advocate for full staffing of all police and fire stations in District 9 to keep our neighborhoods safe and to reduce the response times for our calls for emergency and non-emergency service.
Development
Finally, zoning and land use decisions make up over 70% of what the County Council does on a daily basis. I am the only District 9 candidate that has been paying attention to development in our District. More importantly, I am the only District 9 candidate to regularly educate and update our district residents on what's happening with development and how we can advocate for certain community benefits and amenities. I am the only District 9 candidate to organize District 9 residents in successful fights against unwanted development.
With other District 9 residents, we have successful fought the construction of apartments at the former Hyde Field site in Clinton. I am continuing that advocacy with residents in two communities in Accokeek - The Preserves and Signature Club East.
We have required better road improvements for new developments such as the spine road for Timothy Branch in Brandywine, a road in which the developer originally did not want to build or pay for the construction costs.
We have worked to require builders to contribute to the costs to improve the B. K. Miller intersection (Brandywine/Old Branch and Woodyard/Piscataway Roads) in Clinton.
I have worked with community leaders and advocates in Upper Marlboro for sidewalk and road improvements along Woodyard Road in front of James Madison Middle School and Melwood Elementary School.
I will continue to hold developers accountable for infrastructure improvements when they want to build new developments in District 9.
